Kyōsai (鏡斉) is a demonic artist whose ink illustrations come to life. He lives in a traditional Japanese-style house and seems to work with Yanagida. He was one of the yōkai created from Sanmoto Gorōzaemon's original body and is an executive of the Hyaku Monogatari Clan.
Appearance
Kyōsai is a dark-skinned man with empty white eyes and dark hair tied together at the back of his head. More often than not he has a very deadpan, bored expression and always carries a paintbrush with him.
Abilities
Being the arm of Sanmoto Gorōzaemon, he has the ability to create Ayakashi by painting. He's capable of creating them simply drawing them in paper, and is also capable of turning humans into Ayakashi, by drawing the ayakashi picture in their back he also prefer to choose the young girls to be draw and turn them into ayakashi, although they can be returned to normal.
- Kusozu: A painting of the nine stage of a decaying corpse. Revealed as his "true strength". Kyōsai paints his target which immobilizes the victim. It is suggested that the victim will die once the nine pages are complete.
Trivia
- He is named for the historic figure Kawanabe Kyōsai (河鍋 暁斎), an artist whose subject matter often revolved around traditional Japanese folklore.
