Kurotabō, Sasami and Tosakamaru spot Sodemogi-sama as he enters a shrine. Sasami explains that Sodemogi-sama preys on guardian dieties, steals their base of worship and transforms it into fear of himself, and the three realize that Tamazuki's forces are trying to seize the core of the Nura Clan's power. Inside the shrine, Sodemogi-sama corners the resident land god Kokehime, devouring her sleeve and then chasing her further into the shrine to eat more. However, the sleeve he grabs, assuming it to be Kokehime's, turns out to belong to Kurotabō, and Sodemogi-sama is skewered and sent flying by the latter's Anki Kuroenbu technique. Rikuo and Kuroumaru arrive as Kurotabō verifies that Sodemogi-sama's death will remove the curse. Unfortunately, Natsumi has been affected by it for too long and is still going to die regardless. Rikuo finishes off Sodemogi-sama and Kurotabō recalls when Natsumi saved him from being arrested as a molester.
Back at the hospital, Natsumi's condition has taken a turn for the worse. Outside, Hibari prays at Senba's shrine, offering him the thousand paper cranes which Natsumi had folded in the hopes that he can save her. The strength of Hibari's belief provides Senba with enough power to restore Natsumi's vitals to normal, and she makes a full recovery. The Kiyojūji Paranormal Patrol visit and Rikuo realizes he'll have to deal with Tamazuki and the Shikoku yōkai soon, before anyone else is hurt.
Meanwhile, in the Shikoku yōkai's skyscraper headquarters, Tamazuki is mildly annoyed that Sodemogi-sama has been defeated, and with Nurarihyon out of the area, no less. Inugami tells Tamazuki to give him the order to retrieve Rikuo's head.
